11.1a — Create PT Launch: Pick Your Program
The Create Performance Task and the written responses you will answer about it are, together, 30% of your AP score — and the task is built HERE, in B days, by you — due April 30 at 11:59 PM ET to the Digital Portfolio. Everything this year has been rehearsal: today the real thing launches with the decision that decides everything — what program.
The requirements, read from the horse's mouth. Your program MUST include, or the task scores zero on those rows:
- A list (or array/collection) used as a real part of the program
- A procedure (your C# method) WITH at least one PARAMETER
- An algorithm inside a procedure that uses sequencing, selection, AND iteration
- A call to that procedure, from somewhere that matters
- Input, behavior, output: the program takes input, the code does something, something observable comes out
Full details live on the Create PT guide — open it, read the Written Response prompts, and keep it open all unit. You have already built all five requirements at least three times: the card jam (10.2f) checked them off one by one.
Socratic
The PT allows work you did in class this year. Compare two candidate strategies: port the card game (safe, all boxes ticked, familiar) vs. build the grid/symmetry jam (12.1a will do this later) or something new (riskier, fresher). Which produces a better WR2a answer ("how does your algorithm work") — the one you can EXPLAIN to death, or the one you can explain while half-asleep?
Three candidates, on paper, 5 minutes each:
- The card game port: shuffle + AI_Turn + hand lists. Requirements: pre-ticked. Risk: the graders' rubric rewards DIFFICULTY-APPROPRIATE algorithms, not difficulty-porn; yours is honest.
- The platformer: your semester boss game — list of enemies, phase algorithm (8.2). Risk: Unity projects are big for a PT video demo; a simplified build works fine.
- The new idea: the thing you always wanted. Risk: unknown unknowns under deadline. If you pick this, its scope must fit 4 build days (11.1b–11.1e).
The decision ritual (write the answers in the repo):
- Which candidate can I explain at 11pm after a long day? (WR practice is graded on CLARITY)
- Which has the strongest "input → behavior → output" story a grader can SEE in a video?
- Which will still be interesting to me on build day 4?
Checkpoint — before moving on, you must be able to:
- Recite the five requirements and find them in candidate code
- Defend your program choice with the two questions answered
- Map each requirement to a specific method you will write
- State the deadline from memory: April 30, 11:59 PM ET
